Family Values

I was born and raised in an Italian-American family in Kansas City, where a strong work ethic, family values, and grit were the foundation of everything we did. While I grew up with a deep appreciation for dogs and the outdoors, hunting wasn't actually part of my upbringing.

It Started With Gnarli

That changed when I was introduced to upland hunting and pointing dogs later in life—during my high school and early college years at Kansas State University. The passion took hold of me immediately. During my senior year at K-State, I bought my first pointing dog, Gnarli, who became the spark that shaped the rest of my life. From that moment on, I immersed myself in the world of bird dogs and upland hunting, a pursuit I continue to chase relentlessly.

A Loss To A Legacy

Following graduation, I spent years traveling the country chasing birds. In 2016, I decided to turn that passion into a business and launched Fetching Feathers as a brand and apparel line that reflected the lifestyle, grit, and tradition of the sport.

Later that same year, however, I experienced a life-altering tragedy: a house fire that took the lives of both of my hunting dogs. Rather than walking away from the sport, I chose to honor their memory by fully committing to my purpose. In December 2018, I opened Fetching Feathers Kennels, transforming my loss into a legacy.

Passion & Purpose

For the past eight years, I have dedicated myself to training both dogs and their owners. Based in Colorado, my focus is on building confident, reliable hunting companions and educated handlers. To date, we have trained well over 500 dogs and served clients from more than 27 states who travel from across the country to participate in our program.

Today, I continue to live and work at the intersection of passion, discipline, and purpose. My mission remains the same: helping dogs reach their full potential while preserving the tradition and integrity of upland hunting.

It Started With Fiji

In September of 2012, Lee’s life changed in a big way. No, it was not from recent college graduation; rather, this is when he picked up a small, female, black Labrador puppy from the late, great Robert Milner of Duckhill Kennels. He named her Fiji in respect to the nickname given to Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, of which Lee is a member. Fiji and Lee were inseparable as he set out to learn the process of training his first gun dog. Growing up, Lee had experienced multiple terrific gun dogs, all labs. However, Fiji was Lee’s “maiden voyage” in the dog training world.

Diving Into Training

Throwing himself into the process, he based most of her training on Robert Milner’s ‘positive reinforcement’ approach discussed in his book Retriever Training: A Back to Basics Approach. Somehow, through much effort, grit, failure, learning, and attention, both Lee and Fiji became a highly effective combo over the next twelve years. During that time, together, they forged an unbreakable bond, chasing many a duck, dove, rooster, and grouse across the landscape.

Joining Fetching Feathers

While living and working in South Dakota, Lee stoked a fire within himself for the uplands and added a four-legged companion, his pointer, Charley. It is during his time in South Dakota that he and Fetching Feathers founder, Anthony, forged their partnership 'kickin’ dirt' in pursuit of sharpies and chickens amongst the fabled golden grasses of Fort Pierre Grassland. Their shared passion of chasing birds with gun dogs sparked the idea for Fetching Feathers Virginia. Their partnership turned to brotherhood when it was discovered that both men are members of Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji), truly bringing things full circle.
